Minutes 4/17/07

1. Introductions

Those present at the meeting were: Gay McNeil, Kathy Pape, Sally Painter, Rosemarie Etemad-Green, Susan Shepperd, Nicholas Budge, Paul Morris, Karen Cathcart, Laurie Sykes, Terry Engle, and Deborah Zitrin

2. Approve March’s Minutes (hand out)

March’s minutes were approved.

3. Terry Engle - Booster Bash

Boosters really appreciates kids showing up to play. They will get tickets from Terry for a free hot dog and drink. They are hoping around 15 or so kids can make it. There will be mini raffles throughout the event for sweats, T-shirts, hats, and a $25 QFC gift certificate. This isn’t a fundraiser - it’s just for fun.

The Grant Gala (formerly known as the Booster Auction) will be Sat., 11/17/07, at Tiffany Center in SW, near PGE Park and the Max. They will be funding requests at 60%, and are asking clubs to present their need requests in May.

Rosemarie commented that the bands played at the end of the Fernwood oral auction, and that it was a fun ending.

3. Director’s report - Mr. Budge

Wind Ensemble scored 1st place in playing and sight reading at the PIL festival, and will be going to State. This is a big honor. We will have 5 musicians playing at the State Solo Competition at Lewis and Clark on Sat. 4/28. Warner Pacific was also a success. The bands played really well, and performed admirably on some tough sight reading. The music for the final concert is here, and the kids are excited about their pieces. Mr. Budge will give the counselors a preliminary list of next year’s placements this week. All 9th graders will play in Concert Band and Jazz Lab unless their directors request auditions.

4. Band Council Liaison’s report

Band Camp is now known as Band Workshop & BBQ.

5. Treasurer’s report - Rosemarie Etemad-Green

The booster account currently has $1,029.25. People are ordering DVDs, and can continue to do so. Please specify wind or jazz. As Rosemarie’s daughter becomes a Grant graduate, Boosters issued a heartfelt ‘Thank You’ to Rosemarie for her service.

6. Trip Wrap up report - Susan Shepperd

Susan and 6 parents met to review the trip. Susan is going to create a binder with info. and forms. We will survey all students who went on the trip. Band will alternate between small and large trips

7. Higgins Restaurant Raffle tickets

Rosemarie will sell tickets at Rhino Provino. The raffle must take place off-campus. Price will be $2 for one ticket or 3 for $5.

7. Change to the By-laws

Paul Morris made a motion to amend the By-laws to add the position of president-elect. The motion passed, and the By-laws will be so amended.

8. Officer Nominations for 2007-2008

Kathy Pape has agreed to run for treasurer. Deborah Zitrin has agreed to run for another term as secretary. Susan Shepperd has agreed to run for another term as president.

9. Band Workshop and BBQ - call for volunteers

We need people to help with set-up and food. This is a fun event, and a great way to make some connections at the start of the school year. The date will be determined shortly.
