The Boosters meet on the third Tuesday of every month (the fourth Tuesday in November and no meeting in December) at 7pm in the Grant High Band Room. We receive a report from Mr. Budge as well as discussing future projects. There's always something new going on. Join us! Grant High School Band Boosters Minutes 8/14/07 1. Introductions The meeting was held in Susan Shepperd’s backyard. Present were Antonia Aglialoro, Isaac Weitzhandler, Mollie Shibley, Amelia Harris, Karen Cathcart, Kyle Cook, Henry Babbit-Cook, Matt Slaughter, Ulysses Lopez, Susan Shepperd, Brenda Scearcy, Gay McNeil, Natalie Rogers, Karen Samson, Ralph Erwin, Colin Shepperd, and Deborah Zitrin. 2. Approve May’s Minutes Susan reviewed the highlights of the May minutes with the group. Because there had not been time to review them in depth, we’ll approve them next time.
3. Band Council Laison’s Report - Isaac Weitzhandler Council is getting ready for the Workshop on 8/25. The kids need help cleaning the band room and making music packets. They will be working in the band room on 8/23 and 8/24, from 10:00-2:00. In order to further communication between Band Boosters and the Council, Council members are now required to attend Booster meetings. Band Boosters meets the 3rd Tues. of every month, at 7pm in the Band Room, except Nov. and Dec. Several ideas about improving participation in band were discussed, including outreach and concerts for the middle schools. 4. Officer nomination - President-Elect 2007-2008 Karen Cathcart nominated Kyle Cook for President-Elect. The motion was seconded. Per the By-laws, we’ll vote at the next meeting. 5. Calendar overview for 2007-2008 The 2007-2008 Band calendar was distributed. There was much animated discussion about the various festivals, competitions, clinics and concerts Grant band will participate in this year. Boosters recognized and expressed appreciation to Mr. Budge and the Band Council for their superb ongoing efforts in developing Grant Band. 6. Planning for 2007-2008 activities Sweet Sound of Jazz - a perennial favorite, this concert is held at Westminster Church and involves lots of great music and yummy desserts. This year, we need more kids to serve. This is a big fundraiser and the money raised goes to all ensembles, so come out, support Jazz Ensemble, and have some fun. Kathy Pape chairs the committee, and will be calling for contributions closer to the date, which is Feb.15,2008. OMEA - OregonMusic.org - Nov. 16-19 - Mr. Budge is available to help students record their auditions. Grant Gala Auction - Nov. 17 - The idea of auctioning smaller ensembles, such as brass quartets and wind quintets, was discussed. Many people felt this option might appeal to more people than bidding on the entire jazz ensemble. PIL Solo Ensemble will be at Grant again this year. The event was very successful last year - Council did a great job of organizing and hosting! There was some talk of students marching in the Starlight Parade. Football Pep Band - there are games in the Bowl the 1st 2 Fridays of school. These games are always fun. The Band plays 1st, 2nd, and 4th quarters, and is off half-time and 3rd quarter. The idea of supplying food for marching band rehearsals was raised. Hollywood Veteran’s Day Parade - as is our tradition, all Grant band students will march in the parade. They will wear black pants and their blue Grant Band t-shirts. Black long-sleeved t-shirts (worn under the Grant shirt), black hats, and black gloves are OK, also. Basketball Pep - Mr. Budge will discuss procedures and requirements with students. Students will be selecting a specified number of games to play at. 7. BBQ questions? Plans are in place for our kick-off Workshop and BBQ, to be held Saturday, 8/25. 8. New business We will probably need to order some new tuxes, skirts, and blouses. Karen will see what we’ve got, and order what we need. The next regularly scheduled meeting is Tuesday, September 18 at 7pm in the Band Room. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 pm.
