Present were: Eric Swehla, Zach Gage, Brenda Scearcy, Norm Alexander, Susan Shepperd, Rosemarie Etemad-Green, Steve Singleton, Karen Cathcart, Filomena Tomasella-Lyles, Lonny Doi, Gay McNeil, Paul Morris, Karen Samson, Deborah Zitrin, Ralph Erwin, Deborah Field, Mr. Budge, Klari Crabtree, Teresa Cunningham Byrnes, Terri Rogers, and Cindy Kollofski.

2. Minutes – The minutes of the 9/20/06 meeting were approved.

3. Director’s Report – Mr. Budge

Pep band now has between 70 and 85 students and is going great. Thanks to parental support we now have a Rubbermaid container for snacks, and a hand truck..

While our students are demonstrating skill in class, we need to make a strong push forward if we are going to raise our performance to the next level. This is definitely something within our reach.

Jazz Ensemble is playing at the Auction. Call time is 6:00, and they will perform once at 7:15 and then again before they are auctioned off.

The Fall Concert is coming up and will be on Wed., 10/25.

The Grant/Lincoln football game is Fri., 10/27. We have agreed to play if it doesn’t rain.

The next scheduled Pep Band is 11/3.

Jazz Ensemble has been asked to play on Mon. 10/30 at Alameda, for an afternoon assembly for the whole school. The bus will leave Grant at 1:30.

4. Band Council Liaison’s Report – Zach Gage

Lots of freshmen are showing up at Pep Band, and it has been great fun. We are trying to get more people to wear their Grand Band T shirts. It would be great to have face paints and lots of blue and gray spirit. It would also be great to have more participation from drum line.

The candy for the trip fundraiser will be here soon. Some students may not be interested in Disneyland in the evening. Are there other options for them?

5. Treasurer’s Report – Rosemarie Etemad-Green

There is $1,280.99 in the Band Boosters account. This amount will decrease after expenses for the Auction baskets are reimbursed.

Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble kids have been placing their receipts in the designated box in the Band room. This is very helpful in accounting for these funds.

6. Booster Auction Report -

Auction Basket - Families donated about $300 toward purchasing items for the Auction baskets. The baskets have been designed and prepared, and have many tempting items for the music lover.

Jazz Ensemble Group Bid – Several booster parents are getting together to bid on Jazz Ensemble. Please let Paul Morris know if you would like to join in. If we win, we’ll organize a fund raiser for the kids to play at.

7. Trip Report – Mr. Budge and Susan Shepperd

Trip plans have been approved by the school and the district. Mr. Budge and Susan are working with Heritage on details of our itinerary. The next meeting of the Trip Committee is Mon. 10/23 at 7:00 at Susan’s house. We will plan the itinerary and assign jobs.

8. Fundraising Report – Susan Shepperd

Many people have stepped forward to organize fund raising efforts. Our focus is on raising money for the trip so that everyone who wants to go, can. We would like to raise at lease $100 per student, which would be $4,800. We still need someone to coordinate these efforts.

There will be another fundraising meeting on 11/2, location to be determined. Watch the website for details.

9. Fall Concert preparations and support

CD sales – Paul Morris

Paul will try to have some compilation CD’s available at the Fall Concert.

We will record the concert.

Stage set up – Lonny Doi

Lonny thinks he’s got enough help. Jazz ensemble will be on the side, which will make set-up easier.

Welcome table/Donation jar – Filomena Tomasella-Lyles – Filomena will bring a bouquet from her garden.

Policy on when to open the house – the house will open 15 minutes before curtain time, at 6:15. For safety reasons, the lights will not be on before then, and no one will be permitted in.

Raffle tickets – Mr. Budge’s mom is making another quilt for us to raffle off this year. We’ll try to have tickets to sell at the Fall Concert, and will keep the raffle open through the year.

10. Pep Band support – Cathi Walker

If we play at the Lincoln game on 10/27 we’ll need more water, cookies, and carrots.

11. Marching Band/Veterans’ Day support – Cathi Walker

Marching band rehearsals will start after the Fall Concert, and will be held during class time. There will also be rehearsals outside of class on 11/7 at 3:15, and on 11-9 from 9-11am. The parade is on Saturday, Nov. 11. Call time TBA – expect early morning. Dress code is black pants, and Grant Band T-shirt. Black shirts/sweatshirts under the T-shirts are OK, so are black watchman’s caps and gloves. There will be pizza in the band room when the kids return from the parade provided by the boosters.

12. New Business

There will be a mass number with the choir at the end of the Winter Concert.

Winter Concert is Thursday, December 14 at 7pm in the Grant Auditorium. All bands and choirs will perform.

Yearbook wants pictures in before January. We are bringing in a photographer.

On 12/2 Barnes & Noble will be hosting a Grant Foundation fundraiser from 12:00-5:00. If you present a voucher at time of purchase, Grant Foundation will receive a percentage of the sale funds.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:10. The next meeting will be Tuesday, 11/28/06 at 7:00pm in the band room. This is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
