Introductions Those present at the meeting were: Susan Shepperd, Rosemarie Etemad-Green, Lonny Doi, Ralph Erwin, Deborah Zitrin, Nick Budge, Steve Singleton, Filomena Tomasella-Lyles, Janet Range, Karen Cathcart, Klari Crabtree, Paul Morris, Brenda Scearcy 2. Approve February Minutes – (not yet online) Rosemarie pointed out that there is an error in the Feb. minutes regarding the source of the overpayments. Some overpayments were made on the Disneyland trip, due to the monies raised from the letter writing campaign. Families who overpaid have the option of 1) applying the overpayment to purchase of a DVD; 2) getting a refund; or 3) donating it to the scholarship fund. Otherwise, the minutes were approved as written. 3. Director’s Report - Mr. Budge The bands have been busy. Wind Ensemble won 1st place at Northwest Invitational Band Contest. Jazz band won 2nd place at Clackamas Community College Jazz Festival. The kids are enjoying the framed posters, especially the Star Wars poster. March 1st was our 1st Annual Spring Fling. Concert and Symphonic bands performed with choir. All groups played at a high level, and it was great to see them highlighted at this sure-to-become-a-favorite event. Mr. Budge noticed some 8th graders in the crowd, and has received some parent calls generated by this event. Ralph took lots of pictures, which he’ll have more time to organize when he retires on 4/25. Our very own Princess Kaia Range was crowned, and graciously accepted this position. 4. Band Council Liaison’s report Band Council met today and discussed the trip. They will review it further at the post-trip committee meeting. 5. Treasurer’s report - Rosemarie Etemad-Green Contributions from the letters are still coming in. If you want to send a personal thank you, please let Rosemarie know and she will get you the information. The Booster Account has $1,029.25, after expenses. 6. Trip report - Susan Shepperd/Mr. Budge The trip was a huge success. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make it happen. Kodak Theatre was amazing. The Oscars are filmed here. The David Spear Screening was interesting. The kids asked lots of questions. The talent show was great fun. Collin’s slide show was enjoyed by all. (He will include it in the end-of-year slide show of all the bands.) The performances at California Adventure went well. Both groups did well at the Heritage Festival - they were 2-3 points away from gold. The kids enjoyed the soundtrack recording session. Susan will host a post-trip committee meeting at her home to further de-brief the trip. 7. New business - Wind Ensemble will compete at the PIL championship on Thursday, March 22 at PSU’s Smith Hall, 12:45 pm. -Wind Ensemble will play at Warner Pacific Festival Friday, April 6. - Jazz Ensemble will play at University of Portland Jazz Festival on Thursday, April 19. -Pep Band will play at the Booster Bash on Friday, April 20, from 3:30 to 4:00. - Instrument lockers - Deborah Zitrin will try to get this project up and running again. If know of any cabinetry companies that might be interested in this job, please notify her at debzitrin@juno.com. Formation of Nominating Committee - we need 3 people with connections to freshman and sophomore families. Susan will continue as President next year, and Deborah will continue as secretary, so we’ll need to find a treasurer and possible a vice-president President-elect or vice-president - we are considering adding this position. This would be an excellent opportunity for a freshman or sophomore parent to take a leadership role. Adding this position would require an amendment to the bylaws. Higgins Restaurant raffle - we have a $100 gift certificate we will raffle off at the end of year concert. We’ll also try to sell tickets ahead of time. Band shares are being laminated and will be put up on the wall. We will begin planning Band Camp and the BBQ at the next meeting. We will do a newsletter to parents and 8th grade parents during the summer. Sign ups for auditions for Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble are on the wall in the Band room. Dates are April 9, 10, 11 from 3:30 - 5:00. Mr. Budge will go to the middle schools to audition incoming students. Most of them will be in Concert band so they can remain as a cohort. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 17 at 7pm in the Band Room. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25. | ||||
